New years resolution
John, at a New Year’s party, turns to his friend, Dave, and asks for a smoke.

“I thought you made a New Year’s resolution and that you don’t smoke,” Dave says.

“I’m in the process of quitting,” replies John with a grin. “I am in the middle of phase one.”

“Phase one?” asks David.

“Yeah,” laughs John, “I’ve quit buying.”

Hello Brothers,

This month my Wife and I celebrated our daughter’s first birthday and I wanted to thank you for the show.  It has helped me through self doubt, overtime to make ends meet, and long nights with a fussy baby.

Our daughter is such a blessing and a MUCH better child than I deserve.

I joke with my Wife that if God never gives you more than you can handle then I must be a lightweight with how good she is.

Our decision to have my Wife be a stay at home mom has predictably made things a little tight money wise and I have been praying with my Daughter every night for God to give me wisdom to make good choices with our money.

If you guys have room for us in a prayer I sure would appreciate it.

Thank you for your time and congratulations on the move and new expanded video capability.   It has been great to see you guys on YouTube!

George.

Weekly Bible Verses:
James 4:13-17

Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.

MABLETON, GA (CBS46) –

Two men tried to outgun the owner of a gun store in Mableton, but it did not work out as planned.

It happened Monday morning at the Dixie Gun and Pawn on Veterans Memorial Highway in Cobb County.

Jimmy Groover told police two men wearing masks came in with guns drawn, demanding that he get on the floor, while shouting they were going to kill him.

Groover said he was wearing a pistol on his hip, and he used it to fire back at the robbers, killing one of them.

Police said a series of bullets were fired in both directions.

One of the store’s front windows was shattered from a gunshot.

The other man escaped in a silver Dodge Charger.

Groover and his family have run the store in the same location for about 30 years. He said his store has been broken into more times than he can remember, but no one has ever tried to rob the place while it was open.

(Some warning labels sent by Jeff Bowen, Greg Laurie is the senior pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, Calif)

  • A label on a baby stroller warns: “Remove Child Before Folding.” I pity this poor kid.

A brass fishing lure with a three-pronged hook on the end warns: “Harmful if Swallowed.” That is especially true if you are a fish, but I assume some human decided to give it a nibble, too.
  • A warning on a flush-able toilet brush states: “Do not use for Personal Hygiene.” Now that one is just downright frightening.
  • How about this label on a bottle of drain cleaner that warns: “If you do not understand, or cannot read, all directions, cautions and warnings, do not use this product.” If you cannot read, how would you know what that warning label is saying? Perhaps a skull and cross-bones would have done the trick.
  • A cartridge for a laser printer warns, “Do not Eat Toner.” Thanks for the reminder. I was going to have some with my burrito today at lunch, but now that you’ve warned me, I’ll pass.
  • A label on a 13-inch wheel on a wheelbarrow warns: “Not Intended for Highway Use.” Did some guy actually do this? He must have been fast runner!
  • A can of self-defense pepper spray warns users: “May Irritate Eyes.” Yeah, I was kind of hoping for that, especially the eyes of the person who is attacking me!
  • A dishwasher carries this warning: “Do not allow Children to play in the Dishwasher.” This was probably written for the same person who folded their kid in the stroller!
  • A household iron warns users: “Never iron clothes while they are being worn.” OK, I’m going to confess to this one. I’ve put on a shirt, seen a wrinkle, and then ironed the wrinkled spot while wearing it. So I guess all these labels are not crazy. Or maybe they are and I am. You pick.
  • One final warning label. On the side of household knife: “Never Try to Catch a Falling Knife.” Ouch.

Thanks for all that you do, and may God continue to bless you both.

14 And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying, 15 Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatic, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water. 16 And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him. 17 Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me. 18 And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour. 19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? 20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. 21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.” Matthew 17: 14-21 (KJV)

Woman defends home and daughter from violent intruders, WTOC, Savannah, Ga. 04/26/16
Shannon Linton and her teenage daughter were at home sleeping in Savannah, Ga. when a pair of robbers broke in. At first unaware of the intrusion, Linton went to investigate the suspicious noise when she was punched in the face by one of the intruders. Linton retreated to a bedroom, retrieved a 12-gauge shotgun and fired at the home invaders. Upon meeting armed resistance, the intruders fled the scene.
Following the incident, Linton told a local media outlet, “I did learn that at least now I know that I can protect us. I don’t have to rely on my husband, if, when he is at work, I know I can do it. I don’t have to be afraid of that anymore.” (WTOC, Savannah, Ga. 04/26/16)

Dead Dog
A man runs into the vet’s office carrying his dog, screaming for help. The vet rushes him back to an examination room and has him put his dog down on the examination table. The vet examines the still, limp body and after a few moments, tells the man that his dog, regrettably, is dead. The man, clearly agitated and not willing to accept this, demands a second opinion.
The vet goes into the back room and comes out with a cat and puts the cat down next to the dog’s body. The cat sniffs the body, walks from head to tail, poking and sniffing the dog’s body and finally looks at the vet and meows.
The vet looks at the man and says, “I’m sorry, but the cat thinks that you’re dog is dead, too.” The man is still unwilling to accept that his dog is dead. So the vet brings in a black Labrador retriever. The lab sniffs the body, walks from head to tail, and finally looks at the vet and barks. The vet looks at the man and says, “I’m sorry, but the lab thinks your dog is dead too.”
The man, finally resigned to the diagnosis, thanks the vet and asks how much he owes. The vet answers, “$650.”
“$650 to tell me my dog is dead?” exclaims the man.
“Well,” the vet replies, “I would only have charged you $50 for my initial diagnosis. The additional $600 was for the cat scan and lab tests.

Troy and Doug,

If you remember, at the tail end of last year I ask for prayers for my stepdaughter Emily. She was in a bad snowboarding accident and has been in ICU in VA ever since. I was just up there this weekend and I am happy to report that everyone’s prayers are working. Her brain is no longer swelling and they have her off that monitor. They have also taken the breathing tube out of her. She is slowly progressing, but progress all the same. She still doesn’t realize what’s going on but is slowing waking up. It may take a few days for her to come about after being on all that medication. She does respond to the touch, which is a great leap from where we were just two weeks ago.

I want to think both of you for your prayers and adding her to the Facebook page. It really meant a lot in our time of need. The prayers are working. I would also like to ask that you add Ivy to your prayer list. She is in the ICU step-down unit there in VA and was in a terrible accident. The doctors had to remove part of her skull. I was unable to meet with her but according to my wife, her head now looks like a Teepee ( to put it bluntly). I know the family of Ivy are going through some insurance issues at the moment, I pray that the situation be resolved. Emily, whoever, should be moved to the step-down unit in the next couple of days. At that point, I believe the family is planning to move her to Atlanta for the rehab portion. Thanks again for all the prayers. I can’t even begin to tell you how much they have meant to our family.

Your Brother in Christ,
Steven A. Campbell

In the last podcast, a question was asked about what out of state permits would be good to get since that person lived in Va. That person could apply for the Florida or Utah out of state permits. With the Utah permit . a class is required by a Utah approved instructor. Let that person know to go to “handgunlaw.us” website for info on how to apply. I want to thank you guys for such a great and inspiring podcast. I read my bible everyday and when I listen to the podcast, it adds that much more. Keep up the great and important work. Yours in Christ.

Chicago cellphone store employee fights off a pair of armed robbers, WLS-TV, Chicago, Ill. 01/13/16, Chicago Tribune, Chicago, Ill. 01/14/16
A pair of men armed with handguns entered a T-Mobile store in Chicago, Ill. in an attempt to rob the establishment. An employee, and Right-to-Carry permit holder, responded to the threat by drawing a gun and firing at the robbers, striking both and causing them to flee. A short time later police caught up with the thieves when they sought medical treatment for their wounds.

Store manager Neil Tadros expressed support for his employee following the incident, telling a local media outlet, “I think concealed carry is a great opportunity for managers, workers, employees to protect themselves in these cases. And our employee did a great job to protect themselves and the other employee.” The Chicago Tribune reported that Tadros had further praise for Illinois’ relatively new Right-to-Carry law, stating, “It’s a great thing to have to protect yourself even when you’re not in your business. If you’re out in the streets and someone is threatening your life, you can go out and protect yourself.” (WLS-TV, Chicago, Ill. 01/13/16, Chicago Tribune, Chicago, Ill. 01/14/16)

A funeral service is being held in a church for a woman who has just passed away. At the end of the service, the pallbearers carrying the casket accidentally bump into a wall jarring the casket. They hear a faint moan. They open the casket and find that the women is actually alive. She lives for 10 more years and then dies. A ceremony is again held at the same church and at the end the pallbearers are again carrying the casket out. As they are walking, the husband calls out, “Watch out for the wall!”

Two priests died at the same time and meet St. Peter at the Pearly Gates. St. Peter says, “I’d like to get you guys in now but our computers are down. You’ll have to go back to Earth for about a week, but you can’t go back as humans. What’ll it be?”

The first priest says, “I’ve always wanted to be an eagle, soaring above the Rocky Mountains.”

“So be it,” says St. Peter, and off flies the first priest.

The second priest mulls this over for a moment and asks, “Will you be keeping track of us, St. Peter ?”

“No, I told you the computer is down. There’s no way we can keep track of what you are doing. This week’s a freebie.”

“In that case,” says the second priest, “I’ve always wanted to be a stud.”

“So be it,” says St. Peter, and the second priest disappears.

A week goes by, the computer is fixed and the Lord tells St. Peter to recall the two priests.

“Will you have trouble locating them?” He asks.

“The first one should be easy,” says St. Peter. “He’s somewhere over the Rocky Mountains, flying with the eagles. But the second one could prove to be more difficult.”

“Why?” asks the Lord.

“Because he’s on a snow tire somewhere in Alaska.”

Weekly Bible Verses
John 13:6-17 (ESV)
5 Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him. 6 He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, do you wash my feet?” 7 Jesus answered him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand.” 8 Peter said to him, “You shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no share with me.” 9 Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!” 10 Jesus said to him, “The one who has bathed does not need to wash, except for his feet, but is completely clean. And you are clean, but not every one of you.” 11 For he knew who was to betray him; that was why he said, “Not all of you are clean.”

12 When he had washed their feet and put on his outer garments and resumed his place, he said to them, “Do you understand what I have done to you? 13 You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. 14 If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you. 16 Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17 If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them. A Time to Kill, The Myth of Christian Pacifism by Greg Hopkins

This book is about decisions. Not the everyday kind such as “What should I wear today?” or “Where shall we eat tonight?” but decisions that deal with life, death, and protecting the innocent. Self defense is not only about individual survival; self defense can also decide the fate of a nation and all its citizens. “A Time to Kill:

The Myth of Christian Pacifism” answers questions such as:

  • Do federal, state, and local laws allow citizens to defend themselves against criminal attack?
  • What means are available for self defense?
  • What strategies should one use to avoid potential conflict. Can Christians defend themselves against Islamic extremists?
  • Is pacifism in the Bible?
  • Do the Gospels say Jesus was a pacifist?

Store employees fell armed robbers, WFMZ, Allentown, Pa. 11/01/15
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2015

A trio of men, at least one of whom was armed with a gun, entered Latino’s Meat Market in Reading, Pa. and attempted to rob the store. The two employees on duty responded to the threat by retrieving guns and firing at the robbers, striking two, and causing the other to flee. The two criminals that were struck died. After a preliminary investigation, Reading police stated that the employees appear to have acted in self-defense. (WFMZ, Allentown, Pa. 11/01/15)

DEA Agent

A DEA Agent stopped at a ranch in Texas and talked to an old rancher. He told the rancher, “I need to inspect your ranch for illegally grown drugs.” The rancher said, “okay, but don’t go into that field over there…”, as he pointed out the location. The DEA Agent verbally exploded and said, “look mister, I have the authority of the federal government with me!” Reaching into his rear back pocket, the arrogant officer removed his badge and proudly displayed it to the rancher. “See this badge?! This badge means I can go wherever I want… On any land! No questions asked, no answers given! Do you understand old man?!”

The rancher kindly nodded, apologized, and went about his chores. Moments later the rancher heard loud screams, he looked up and saw the DEA agent running for his life, being chased by the ranchers big Santa Gertrudis Bull…… With every step the bull was gaining ground on the officer, and it was likely that he’d sure enough get gored before he reached safety. The officer was clearly terrified. The old rancher threw down his tools, ran as fast as he could to the fence, and yelled at the top of his lungs……
“YOUR BADGE! SHOW HIM YOUR  BADGE!”

Listener Feedback
Troy and Doug,

I like morale patches, and I have a few from some of the podcasts I listen to.  I  wear them on my hat, and keep them on my backpack to show off the shows I support.  I wanted a God and Guns patch so I had one made.  I used Mutiny Shop ( mutinyshop.com ) since I have used them before for a custom patch for my work.  The patches are quality pvc patches with hook and loop backing.  I attached a photo to show the size and picture quality of the patch.  I like the way the patch turned out, and I would like to send you guys a few.   Let me know what you think, and if you are interested it would be my pleasure to send you some.

I love the show, and may God continue to bless you both.

Thank you,
Jeff Bowen

Bible Verse
Marks of the True Christian

9 Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. 10 Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. 11 Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. 12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. 13 Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.

14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. 16Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. 17 Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. 18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.19 Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” 20 To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Business owner shoots, kills would-be burglar
By St. John Barned-Smith |  May 23, 2015 |  Updated: May 24, 2015 1:48pm

The owner of a trucking company in northeast Houston shot and killed a man trying to steal from  his business Friday night, authorities said.
According to Houston police, the owner of the shop in the 8500 block of Westcott near Camay returned to his shop, which is currently still under construction, around 9:45 p.m. and found a man inside trying to steal some items.
The two began scuffling, and the business owner, who was armed, pulled out his firearm and shot the man.
The burglar was taken to LBJ Hospital in critical condition, where he died. His identity has not yet been released.
The business owner was not hurt and has not yet been charged with any crimes, and the case will be referred to a Harris County grand jury, according to Houston Police Department spokesman Kese Smith.
The case is still under investigation, he said.

I am new to your show and as a temporary lost Christian, this show is helping with my coming back to the faith.

I have a question about flashlights, recently one of you mentioned inexpensive and bright lights but I could not find them in the show notes and can’t write fast enough to catch the details during the podcast Ha!

I would like to see a link to them if you have time to share,

OUR JOY IN GOD IS MADE COMPLETE
11 These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. 12 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command you. 15 No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. 17 These things I command you, so that you will love one another. John 15:11-17 (ESV)

Female Clerk Takes Armed Robber’s Gun, Shoots Him and Then Beats Him

A clerk in Lexington, KY had to fight for her life and for her store during an armed robbery on Friday night.

Two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun entered the Discount Tobacco Zone, came behind the counter and demanded cash.

When one of the men sat his gun down to attempt to open the register, Zara Adil took the opportunity and grabbed the gun.

She pointed the firearm at the men and told them to leave. One of the men quickly obliged her, however the other suspect attacked her. During the struggle, Adil shot the suspect once in the shoulder.

She then told him to leave and leave the money after the man pleaded for his life. However, as he walked by the register, he made another grab for the cash drawer. That’s when Adil chased after the man, grabbed him, and quickly threw him down on the ground.

Ultimately, the wounded suspect ended up fleeing the store empty handed.

In an interview with WTVQ, Adil said the reason robberies are increasing in Lexington is because no one is fighting back. “If more people stand up, they won’t have that much courage to go around and do what they’re doing,” she said.

Acting up in Church
One Sunday in a Midwest City, a young child was “acting up” during the morning worship hour. The parents did their best to maintain some sense of order in the pew but were losing the battle. Finally, the father picked the little fellow up and walked sternly up the aisle on his way out.Just before reaching the safety of the foyer, the little one called loudly to the congregation, “Pray for me! Pray for me!”

Subject: Thankful I found your podcast!!!
Troy & Doug,
I found your podcast last week and have been listening to about 2 broadcasts a day while at work. I’m a fellow believer in Christ and an outdoor enthusiast! I found your site because I started following Doug on his YouTube site and webpage (legallyconcealed.org). I knew there was something different about you Doug from the start, and after I got your “Counter Violence” book and read the dedication page, I said out loud…”I thought so!” It said, “dedicated to my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ!”

I very much appreciate both of your real life stories and real life faith.

Would love to hear your thoughts on gun registration, and would you recommend purchasing anything you have to register? I am a law abiding citizen, and live in a state that is restrictive and do not want to have anything that is registered, because let’s face it, the first people the Nazi’s put in jail were Pastors and all registered gun owners.

From: Ryan
Subject: Tithing
Hello, Just came across your show and I was very excited about it so I downloaded a few of the 1st episodes. After listening to a few I have heard some things that seem very concerning to me. Overall you guys seem to be a lot more zealous and knowledgeable about secular things (movies, sports etc…) than biblical things even though you both say you have grown up in Christian homes.

Specifically I would like to ask you to support your position on tithing… I can only find 3 examples in scripture of people or groups tithing. That would be Abraham, the Israelites (under OT law) and the Pharisees (also Israelites under OT law). Which one should I tithe like?

Thank you

Weekly Bible Verses

I thank God whom I serve, as did my ancestors, with a clear conscience, as I remember you constantly in my prayers night and day. As I remember your tears, I long to see you, that I may be filled with joy. I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well.  For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands,  for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God,  who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began, and which now has been manifested through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel,  for which I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher, which is why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that Day what has been entrusted to me. 2 Timothy 1:3-12 (ESV)

Initially, Haley didn’t find anyone in the home and went back to bed. However, another noise roused Haley again, at which point she discovered an intruder in a bedroom closet. Haley ordered the man to stay still and held him at gunpoint in the closet until police arrived. Following the incident, Haley told a local media outlet, “I’m glad I had that gun… And I’m thinking they (burglars) won’t try this again anytime soon.”

Miracles Happen

“Wow!” Bill told his friend Isaac. “Check this out! The Bible says here that the Israelites crossed over the Red Sea on foot!”

“Well,” replied Isaac, “That’s actually the Sea of Reeds, which at that point was actually very shallow, so they probably crossed over in just two feet of water.”

“Oh,” said Bill, and he continued to read, disappointed. “Hey, wait! Check this out! It says here that the Egyptian army drowned in just two feet of water!”

Point of View
One enterprising man asked the Lord, “Lord, how long is a million years to you?”
The Lord replied, “To me, a million years is like a second.”
The man asked, “Lord, how much is a million dollars to you?”
The Lord said, “To me, a million dollars is like a penny.”
The man asked, “Lord, may I have a penny?”
The Lord answered, “Sure, just a second.”

8. Where should you hold the cross hairs on the scope to make the best possible shot.
9. Find a gun suited for your child. Don’t start them on a big gun they won’t like. Practice with a 22 before to get used to the scope.

Weekly Bible Verses

Persecution Will Come

“Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. Beware of men, for they will deliver you over to courts and flog you in their synagogues, and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness before them and the Gentiles. When they deliver you over, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say, for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour. For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. Brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death, and you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. When they persecute you in one town, flee to the next, for truly, I say to you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes. “A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign those of his household. Matthew 10: 16-25 (ESV)
